Introduction
The first Laparoscopic Radical Prostatectomy (LRP) successfully performed was carried out by Schuesser in 1997 and the procedure time was more than 8 hours. Since then, laparoscopy has never stopped envolving, becoming nowadays the usual surgery technique to localized prostatic cancer. Our department had it is first resident in 2011.
Material and Methods
Between December 2015 and December2016 we performed 81 LRPs without preservation, 11 of them were performed by residents. We analyzed the datas of all LRPs during these years and compared physicians` data with residents` data.
Results
The average age was 68 for residents and 65 for physicians, and mean PSA was10 for residents and 7.6 for physicians. The majoritarian clinical stage for both of them was cT2c and the majoritarian Gleason score of the biopsy was 3+3.
The mean operative time was 194 minutes for residents and 174 minutes for physicians. The mean hospital stay was 5 days for residents and 3 days for physicians.
6 months after catheter removal, 88% was dry in residents`group and 92% in physicians group. The majoritarian pathological stage was pT2c in both groups as well as Gleason score, which was 4+3.
Conclusions
The LRP is a surgical technique which has been carried out by tutorized residents in our departemnt during their last year of the residence. Analizing the data, we conclude there is not a clinical important diference between residents`and physicians`procedures, as well as functional and oncological outcomes provided that residents were always tutorized.
